“I brought you something”
Chuuya flinched, the familiar voice coming suddenly, startling him. He lifted his head tiredly and rubbed at his eyes, sitting up.
In the dark of his room, the only light came from the window; the moon. A silhouette of an all-too familiar person.
“Jesus, why do you keep doing this.” Chuuya laughed lightly. This wasn’t the first time that Dazai had come up to his window at ungodly hours in the night and startled him awake (and he was sure it wouldn’t be the last).
“I wanted to see you,” his voice so soft.
And even though it was dark, and the backlighting contrast made it impossible to see anything, Chuuya knew that the latter was smiling.
“Did you now? Somebodies clingy,” the redhead teased, shifting in his blankets to pull it down some. “Wanna come to bed?”
Dazai didn’t reply, but he moved. Stepping down from the windowsill and shutting the window almost completely, leaving it open a crack so it didn’t get too hot. He creeped over to Chuuya’s bed and climbed onto it, sitting in front of the other and crossing his legs.
“I can see you now that the moon isn’t taking all the spotlight.” Dazai had on a large t shirt that pooled at his waist where he sat, some sweatpants, mussed up hair, and his usual bandages, though some of them loosened.
“Wanna see what I got you?” Dazai laughed.
“Can we go to bed first, I don’t think my eyes are strong enough to see right now.”
“I came all the way here to give Chuuya a gift, and all he wants to do is sleep with me, how could this be,” Dazai dramatically flung a hand on his forehead, leaning back.
“Oh hush, if you’re too loud you’ll wake up the whole mafia,” Chuuya lightly slapped the brunette’s shoulder, trying (and failing) to hold back a laugh. “Yes, fine, I’ll look at what you got me.”
Dazai perked up immediately and smiled brightly, teeth showing and all. “Really?”
Chuuya nodded.
“Okay, close your eyes and i’ll put it in your hands.”
“Absolutely not, I do not trust you enough for that.”
“Awww, but Chuuya,” he drew out the ‘a’ in a pleading manner, “it’ll ruin the suprise,” he pouted. “It’s nothing that can hurt you.”
The latter squinted at him.
“Have I ever lied to you?”
He squinted harder, almost leaning foreword.
“Okay, okay maybe I have a couple of times but with things like this?”
“You told me to close my eyes and open my hand once and you put a chunk of mud in it. Another time, you put a spider in my hand.”
“Okay- well that was truly your fault for trusting me.” he laughed softly.
“That’s why i’m not doing it now, dumbass,” there was really no malice behind Chuuya’s words, only there to tease.
“Hmph, will it help if I make a pinky promise that it can’t hurt you and won’t be gross?”
A beat of silence.
If Dazai broke the pinky promise, Chuuya got to break his pinky, so it was really just a win-win situation for himself.
“That’s the best im getting out of you I guess.” Chuuya held out his hand. They locked pinkies, shook, and Dazai beamed.
“Okay, eyes shut, hands out.”
Chuuya groaned and did as told.
Silence for a moment, nothing at all. Until something small and…fluffy? Was placed into his hands.
“…What’s this?” Chuuya kept his eyes shut.
“You can look and see,” the smile in Dazai’s voice was audible as ever.
Chuuya followed, opening his eyes and looking down at his hands.
A small stuffed fox, just bigger than both his hands. It was put into a sitting position facing the redhead. It had small buttoned eyes that were blue, looking like they weren’t done originally.
“Did you sew on new eyes?”
Dazai nodded. “It matches Chuuya!”
Oh, huh.
“Why? And why the stuffed fox?” The aforementioned tilted his head to the side slightly, asking a genuine question.
“Because foxes remind me of you! They’re small and orange—like the color of your hair—and they’re fast and squeaky and loud. And they’re really sneaky, and good at what they do.
“Oh, and I took out the old eyes and sewed on blue button eyes so that it matched you.” Dazai smiled proudly at what he found and his modification.
Chuuya stared down at the little stuffed toy in his hands.
He forgets Dazai can be kind sometimes since they’re always bickering and messing with each other, always making a mess and being loud.
“I’m going to ignore the short joke for your sincerity. Thank you,” he spoke the last part quietly, not pulling his gaze from the thing.
“You’re welcome,” Dazai’s voice was so soft and genuine, so kind. Chuuya smiled and looked up at him.
“Do you wanna head to bed now? I’m really tired,” Dazai nodded.
They slept in the same bed all the time, this was nothing new. They got under the covers, Chuuya not even bothering to check the time in fear of whatever hour it was, and they shifted close for warmth and comfortability. Chuuya hugging onto the plush that Dazai gave him moments before.
They intertwined their legs together tiredly and quickly fell asleep, their breathing even, and Chuuya drooling like he always did in his sleep. Something Dazai always made fun of him for, to tease.
The small analog clock blinked the numbers ‘5:36am’.
