The summer evening air blew warm across the pair’s faces, Marina’s tentacles curling at the edges with the pleasant feeling.

Pearl and Marina’s hands swung between them, with Pearl’s thumb rubbing calming circles into the knuckles of Marina’s hand.

“The sun’s practically gone, shouldn’t it have cooled down by now?” Pearl groaned, fanning herself with her free hand.

“Well,” Marina smiled, twirling the golden band on the other’s finger, “The sun is hitting directly on you because it’s sunset, so it makes sense that it’s so warm now.”

Pearl sighed, slumping into Marina’s shoulder, pressing light kisses to her skin. It glowed in the lighting, Marina as radiant as ever. She was so gorgeous. “You’re so smart, ‘Rina. Wanna get some ice cream before we head home?” She pointed a finger towards the small ice cream parlor just down the dock.

“‘Course. What’s a summer evening date without a little ice cream?” Marina laughed, her stunning smile gleaming, Pearl noted. Marina’s tentacles shifted and rested comfortingly over Pearl’s shoulders, sticking slightly with the summer heat, suckers leaving faint marks on her pale skin.
“Right as always, my love,” Pearl crooned.

There was barely a line, the dinner rush having passed by only a couple hours earlier. They decided on sharing a two-scoop cone, wanting to play more into the cheesy date than they already had.

After Pearl paid, she tangled her hand back into Marina’s, making their way to a bench further down the pier. They sighed happily as they sat down, giving their feet a much deserved rest after a full day of walking around together.

“D’you think the ice cream will taste good?” Pearl leaned her head onto Marina’s shoulder, her golden eyes looking up at her wife through her lashes, a smile pulling at her mouth. They had each picked one flavor for the cone; Pearl chose mint chocolate chip, and Marina chose strawberry.
Marina pecked a quick kiss to Pearl’s forehead. “Only one way to find out.” She licked a stripe up both scoops, making sure to get a taste of both together.

She licked her lips and smiled, letting the taste linger. “S’good,” Marina leaned the cone towards Pearl, offering her a taste of the sticky sweet.
Pearl leaned forward, taking a bite straight down the side of the pile to get a taste of both scoops like Marina had done.

“Ah—Pearlie!” Marina gaped, staring at her wife in horror.

Pearl smiled, making a show of licking the cream off her lips and licking over her teeth, tapping a finger to her chin dramatically in thought. “You’re right, it is good,” she laughed. “Of course it is though—it’s us!” Pearl pressed a sticky kiss to Marina’s cheek.

“I guess you’re right,” Marina sighed, cupping Pearl’s face with her free hand. “You always taste good,” she smiled mischievously.

“‘Rina!” Pearl gasped, turning to face the other, arms wrapping over her shoulders, pulling them closer. Her face was dusted a light shade of red.
Marina kissed the apples of her cheeks, rubbing her thumb gently over the pale skin. “You’re so gorgeous, Pearlie,” she hummed.

“Coming from the most stunning woman I've ever seen,” Pearl pressed into the touch.

“From one to another, wouldn’t you agree?” Marina’s eyes squinted with the force of her smile.
“I’ll agree with anything you say, ‘Rina,” Pearl all but whispered as she leaned closer, lips just barely brushing Marina’s—

“Ah,” she pulled away, looking to the ground where their half melted two scoops now laid. Pearl followed her gaze, frowning at the sight.

“Oops…” She laughed sheepishly, “Guess we got a little distracted…”

“Yeah, maybe a little carried away,” Marina laughed brightly, lighting up the dim boardwalk. Pearl stared in awe, eyes shining with adoration. “Should we get another?” Marina turned to face the other, questioning look on her face.

“Just one scoop this time?” Pearl smiled, removing her arms to stand, taking the melty cone from Marina’s hands. “D’you want some of the cone?”
“Nah,” Marina stood, holding her sticky hand away from herself, “You can have it, hon’.”

Pearl wolfed down the cone in a couple bites as they made their way back to the ice cream parlor again, and ordered a single scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough instead.

“Can I still get that kiss?” Pearl tilted her head playfully, watching Marina lick a stripe up their new treat.

“Of course,” she smiled, turning to nuzzle her nose affectionately with Pearl’s. They pressed their lips together, tasting the lingering flavor of sugar as they melted into the kiss.

Once they pulled apart, they made their way home, hands forever tangled together and satisfied smiles on their faces.
